Ingredients
1/2 cup butter, softened1/2 cup shortening1 cup sugar1/2 cup packed brown sugar1 large egg, room temperature1 teaspoon vanilla extract1/2 teaspoon almond extract2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour1 tablespoon ground cinnamon2 teaspoons baking soda2 teaspoons cream of tartar2 teaspoons ground nutmeg2 teaspoons grated orange zest1 teaspoon grated lemon zest1/2 teaspoon saltAdditional sugar
Preparation
In a large bowl, cream butter, shortening and sugars until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Beat in egg and extracts. Combine the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cream of tartar, nutmeg, orange and lemon zest and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture.
Shape into 1-in. balls; roll in sugar. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° until lightly browned, 10-15 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool.
